Summer Study

The Grace Church Council invites you to join us in dwelling in God's Word:
Read the designated section  each week.
Join a group, choose 1-2 people, or do alone and share your reflections each week.
Spend time together in prayer.

Why Grace does this:
  • Jesus promises where two or three gather in his name - He is there in their midst.
  • Many congregations are finding this process of reading, sharing reflections, and praying together a powerful way to nourish and fill their souls, deepen the bonds in their congregation, and sharpen their ability to listen to God, each other, and the needs of the community and the world.

How it is done - three steps to this process:
  1. Invite one or two people to join you or a group or whom you tell you are doing this on your own.
  2. Meet some place each week for 45 minutes. Spend a few minutes to check in with each other, a litte more time to reflect on the reading and at least 15 minutes in prayer.
  3. If possible, please record your reflections and  prayer concerns. This will provide background for the goal-setting event in fall and petitions for Sunday prayers.
For questions or difficulty finding a partner  – contact the church office – 715-453-4066.

What it is:
This study is different from all our other studies at Grace. It is a method called "dwelling in the Word" and involves forming relationships - so why it fits summer time.
  • Most important is to choose 1-3 people and do it weekly.
  • Next in importance is to aim to keep it to 45 minutes - so it is doable. Plus do it in a setting that is comfortable for you. In summer - great to be outside.
  • There is an assigned reading to do in advance. Usually one chapter in the Bible in book of the Bible used in our worship during summer. And there is a bookmark with each week's reading and questions to consider.
  • There are three actions each time you meet:
    1. Catch up with each other on how your week has been - about 10 minutes
    2. Share your insights on that week's reading - about 20 minutes
    3. PRAY - at minimum 15 minutes.
RESULT:
The 15 minutes in prayer will greatly impact you. It may be uncomfortable and take time to grow into. To begin you may make a list together of prayer concerns for the world, our nation, your family, church, creation and end with, "Lord God hear us, heal us, do your will in our lives."
The weekly sharing will deepen your connection with those in your group.
You will learn to dig into God's Word more easily and hear it speaking to you.

When has Grace done this?
2015 - study was on Acts of the Apostles
2016 - study was on Galatians, Colossians, and 1 & 2 Timothy
2017 - study was on the Gospel of Matthew.
2018 - study is on the Gospel of Mark.
